Charlesgate Realty Holiday Movie Picks

Posted on December 8, 2010

So this blog may not really have anything to do with apartments. But hey, let’s just say it does, because technically you can grab one of these movies and chill out and stay cozy in your new Boston apartment, it’s supposed to be cold this weekend anyways. Tis’ the season, so I thought I would go around the office and take a poll or tally and see what everyone’s favorite Holiday movie was. Here is what I got. But first, here’s a clip from Elf.

Yes, as odd as it might sound, most of the guys at Charlesgate voted Die Hard as their favorite holiday movie, maybe that isn’t odd.
(Available on Instant Queue on Netflix)
Plot: New York cop John McClane gives terrorists a dose of their own medicine as they hold hostages in an LA office building.
And I believe there are a few santa hats being worn throughout the movie, and it’s snowing.

Elf. Will Ferrell in tights with a child like innocence. Enough said.
Plot: After inadvertently wreaking havoc on the elf community due to his ungainly size, a man raised as an elf at the North Pole is sent to the U.S. in search of his true identity.

I’ve actually never seen this, but it is now on my list. Trading Places. You can’t go wrong with Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd.
Plot: A snobbish investor and a wily street con artist find their positions reversed as part of a bet by two callous millionaires.

Bad Santa. I haven’t seen this one either, man I have a lot of catching up to do.
Plot: A miserable conman and his partner pose as Santa and his Little Helper to rob department stores on Christmas Eve. But they run into problems when the conman befriends a troubled kid, and the security boss discovers the plot.

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. My holiday season is not complete unless I watch this at least four times. I think it gets most families holiday shin-digs down to a T!
Plot: The Griswold family’s plans for a big family Christmas predictably turn into a big disaster.

Christmas is not Christmas until you watch A Charlie Brown Christmas.
Plot: Repelled by the commercialism he sees around him, Charlie Brown tries to find the true meaning of Christmas.

Honorable Mentions

Love Actually
Plot: Follows the lives of eight very different couples in dealing with their love lives in various loosely and interrelated tales all set during a frantic month before Christmas in London, England.

Citizen Kane
Plot: Following the death of a publishing tycoon, news reporters scramble to discover the meaning of his final utterance.

A Christmas Story
Plot: Ralphie has to convince his parents, teachers, and Santa that a Red Ryder BB gun really is the perfect gift for the 1940′s.

How The Grinch Stole Christmas
Plot: A grumpy hermit hatches a plan to steal Christmas from the Whos of Whoville.

Home Alone
Plot: An eight year-old, who is accidentally left behind while his family flies to France for Christmas, has to defend his home against idiotic burglars.

Just so you know Empire Strikes Back and Jaws: The Revenge was also mentioned. I know, I know. People have odd taste in movies during the holiday, but whatever floats your boat.
