Boston Winter Events

I’ve scoured the web, asked people on the sidewalk, and harassed people in the office…about the best things to do in Boston…dare I say it…in the winter.
Cue the holiday music…or not.

Frog Pond
November rolls around and, Voila, Frog Pond is transformed into an outdoor skating rink with a 16,000-square-foot ice-skating surface, becoming a slick playground for kids–as well as a refuge for office workers, who can lace up their skates for an invigorating workout or a leisurely stride-and-glide.Frog Pond Website

First Night 2010 (obviously New Years night. ) is the 34th celebration of the arts and community in Boston. First Night is proud to present an amazing group of performers and visual artists who truly represent the richness of Boston’s cultural landscape. Our celebration features longtime audience favorites like the interactive Fedex Family Festival, colossal ice sculptures, the Mardi Gras style Metro Grand Procession, and of course, two dazzling fireworks displays. To get the full scale and more information go to their website at First Night.
To be or not to be…a ski bum
I’d be willing to give down hill skiing a chance again, although I think I would prefer learning how to snowboard. (I trusted my brother one year, and ended up breaking a few ribs. Thanks bro!) Anyways…check out Blue Hills Ski area. Family passes are available as we as seasonal passes.
The Nutcracker
Being that I have never seen the Nutcracker live, I probably should go…Boston Ballet’s The Nutcracker is a must-see holiday event for the whole family! Join Clara on her magical journey through an enchanted winter wonderland to a palace of sugary confections. November 27 – December 27, 2009 Tickets can be purchased on Boston Ballet’s website.

Probably one of the best time’s to hit up the art museums and galleries. You’re getting out of the house, but somewhere warm, and getting cultured as well..it’s a win-win. Check out work by Damián Ortega, Krzysztof Wodiczko, and Ugo Rondinone. ICA’s website
